Where Brides Go® Featured Engagements
April Felchner and Janson Fangio
Wedding Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Wedding Date: TBD Soon

About Us: Janson and I are both artists, theatre-goers, and history geeks. We graduated fro Pepperdine University in Malibu, Ca. I have 2 BAs in Studio Art and Art History and I intend on persuing Art Conversation as a profession. Janson has a BA in Theatre, and is pursuing Costume Design and Historical Reproductions of Clothing. In a year or two, we plan to move to Europe for post-baccalaureate programs in Art Conservation and Master Tailoring. One of our favorite pass times is dressing up in period clothing. Janson is an incredibly talented clothing maker. He aspires to become a costume designer, and our Halloween costumes every year are a tribute to his talent. We spend virtually all year planning for it. This year, we are planning for

the whole family to be the "Tudors and Friends." All costumes will be made by Janson. We will have Henry VIII, Ann Boleyn, Elizabeth I, Bloody Mary, Pope Clement, Thomas Cranmer Archbishop of Cantebury, and William Shakespeare. But our dressing up is not only limited to Halloween. We have traditional German trachten that we wear to Oktober Fests and several 1920s outfits for going out dancing. We could fit any themed party from fairy tales, to Victorian period, to circus, to silent horror films, British Raj, and lots more. Our wedding will certainly reflect our passion for history. We will not necessarily have a "themed" wedding, however, the wedding will certainly have a specific "look" inspired by a time period. We are considering a 1910-1920s "first-class-Titanic" look for the wedding party. Janson currently works at the Broadmoor Hotel as a tailor. We also spend much of our time at art museums and at the COS philharmonic. For my birthday, he took me out Viennese waltzing. We had never waltzed together before, but we got a lot of compliments on our dancing. We also spend a lot of time with our church at St. George's Anglican Church. Janson sings tenor in the church choir, and I help out with the youth group. We have just received the rights from Samuel French to put together a play with the St. George's youth group this December called "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" by Barbara Robinson.
Our engagement story: Janson's cousin, Adrian, was getting married in Scranton, Pennsylvania on June 27th, 2009. So, we made a trip to PA and, and decided to detour to NYC to see some city and some friends who live there.
On [what we thought was] the last night of our visit in NYC, we were trying to decide what to do with our final evening with our friends. Janson suggested that we to do something that you can only do in NYC. I agreed, and a few suggestions were thrown out from our friends: Wanna go to the top of the Empire State Building? .... that sounded cold and windy to me. What about a carriage ride through Central Park? ...that sounded expensive. What about DUMBO? ..." What's DUMBO?" I asked, "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. It has a nice view of the city and there's an ice cream shop." So, I said, "Yeah, let's do that!" not knowing that this whole conversation was planned among Janson and our friend, Mike. I had no idea what was coming up, especially since I thought this little outing was all MY idea.
The sunset was stunning. Janson takes me over nearer to the water while our friends walked on ahead. Which was great, since I was hoping we could stop and soak it in for a while. I sat myself on a rock, happy to get off my feet for a while, and I stared into the sunset. Janson got my attention where he was kneeling beside the rock. In a little box was a ring. After I spattered off some confused/astonished/excited gibberish in fragmented sentences, he popped the question. I said yes, and kissed him. :) He replaced the promise ring he gave me with a diamond platinum ring once owned by his great-grandmother. The ring is dated circa mid-late 19th century. It is vintage and classic, just like him.
Then we schmnoozed in the sunset a bit... So, it was perfect. I had the proposal of my dreams from the man of my dreams. I only wished I had done my hair, dressed cuter, and had my nails done at the time. And the best part was I had no idea it was happening! I had always thought that I would KNOW when the day came that Janson would ask me to marry him, simply because I would get suspicious if he suddenly wanted to go out and do something, which he rarely wants to do. So, the fact that he made his plans to sound like my idea is amazing. I just didn't know Janson was so crafty.
Later, we went to have that ice cream.
A special Thank you to our good friend, Mike, who caught the whole thing on photo and video. Click here to see it! |
