Our engagement story:
Gillie and I had actually prepared a trip to Austin, TX to go say good bye to my best friend Akeem since he was leaving for Iraq. We went to Austin on the 29th of September. This was Gillie's second time going to Austin. Since I had already told him that m y favorite place in the world was in Austin, he made me promise that this time I would actually take him there. So on September 30, 2006, my sister, my mom, Gillie and I went to the Botanical Garden in Austin and trailed the whole garden. We took some awesome pictures and had a great time. Near the end of the trail, we spotted a butterfly chair, and since I love butterflies, Gillie thought it would be a great idea sitting on the chair. While my sister was taking a picture of me, I noticed that Gillie got really nervous, and he kept whispering in my sister's ear. After my sister took the picture, Gillie looked at me and said, "I want to be in the picture with you." I told him to stand next to me. He walked toward me and got down on one knee. I couldn't believe what was going on. My jaw dropped and I stayed that way for a long while. Gill looked at me and said, "I love you so much, baby, and I want to know if you would make me the happiest man alive and be my wife." At that point he was crying and so was my mom. My sister, Cecy was standing there taking pictures, and I just sat there with my jaw still dropped. I couldn't believe it, so he asked me again if I would marry him. I finally said yes, and he put the ring on my finger. It was just the greatest proposal ever. I was so clueless; I had no clue whatsoever that he was going to propose. When we had left the house the day before, we had to return because he had forgotten the ring. However, he told me that he had forgotten his phone charger. He gave the ring to my mom to hold. And it turns out that when he was whispering in my sister's ear, he was actually telling her to take some good pictures so that we could have the memory of our proposal. It was a great day, and I would not have had it any other way. I thought it was romantic, and I love how he did it in front of the two people who mean the world to me. Now we can't wait for the wedding day so that we can share our love with all our friends and family! I am now "Soon to be Mrs. Vasquez"!!!
